Born in Galveston, Texas, Oregon raised. Attended Benson High School and spent time in the USN after which he worked at several national chains getting his mgmt education along the way before going into the cosmetology industry where he was a Master Stylist and Cosmetology Instructor in Oregon and Washington before retiring and going back to school to get his Associates in Business Entrepreneurship. While attending school Derek and his wife founded HANDS of FAVOR to take advantage of his years of experience in the industry as well as his years of relationship building to make a difference in the lives of the poor and hurting among us.
Sara Edmond was born in North Carolina, and moved to Oregon 14 years ago. A graduate of Mount Olive University in Mount Olive NC with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. She also studied Drug and Alcohol Counseling at Portland State University in Portland OR. Sara completed some minor Biblical studies through Emmaus International Correspondence School. She has guest spoken at Hillsboro’s Sonrise Church Light My Way Women's Conference in March of 2020 where she spoke on freedom in living in Christ. She is also a former resident and graduate of Shepherd’s Door, part of Portland Rescue Mission.
She is a member of Gateway Church, in Portland OR, and has been for 3 years. She serves on the worship team and family care and fellowship team. She also helps lead the Parkrose Compassion Connect Clinic that happens quarterly at Gateway Church. Sara, volunteers with Union Gospel Mission Search and Rescue, and Portland Rescue Mission guest services weekly.She currently works with the homeless community and has done work with vulnerable populations for over five years including working with those who have mental health issues, criminal backgrounds and youth.
Sara has a desire to spread the gospel and share Jesus with others. She sets aside time in her day to study and read God’s word and prays daily. She enjoys helping those who can’t help themselves and those who are most vulnerable in her community.
She likes to hike, workout at the gym, and volunteer in her free time. She is trained in Crisis intervention and de-escalation and is goal-oriented, confident, a creative thinker, open-minded, a good listener, teachable, highly self-motivated, a critical thinker, empathetic, and engages well with diverse groups of people.
